FOLLOWING THE RYTHM AND HISTORY OF THE RUMBA MUSIC

A documentary tracing the history of this popular African dance music. From Kinshasa to Brazzaville, along the banks of the River Congo, Rumba has been the music for the people of Congo and Zaïre since the 1950's, often celebrating the events of modern Africa, such as the famous "Independence Cha-Cha" sung by Joseph Kabaselle in 1960. Through the use of archives and modern footage, Rumba presents us with a look at the last forty years of popular African music.
